The proposed development includes 145 apartments, many of which will overlook Shirley Park. There has already been a considerable amount of interest, with dozens of early enquiries. Jonathan Cox of Shirley Advance said, “It’s common for people to request homes on developments before they’ve been built but we have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of interest shown at this particularly early stage.”

Plans include a healthy mix of one and two bedroom apartments. A total of 58 (40%) of these apartments will be allocated for ‘affordable’ use. 24 of the affordable units will be operated by West Mercian Housing Association, with a mix of both shared ownership and social rent. The remaining 34 affordable units will be offered by Heart of England Housing Association as a much needed Extra care Facility for the Elderly, again on a shared ownership and social rent basis.

In addition, a further 55 units will be provided for Retirement Living. This will be operated by McCarthy & Stone and will provide a further depth of residential living as part of the overall mixed use nature of the development.

Throughout the consultation, there was much interest in such a facility for those in, or approaching retirement, to live within a high quality and secure environment, close to the shops and indeed Shirley Park. Indeed, Sue C from Shirley recently told us “I am nearing retirement and it would suit me to downsize to something smaller and more manageable and to be so convenient to the shopping centre.”

We have already recorded a great deal of interest, mostly from existing Shirley residents, in the residential apartments. We have appointed John Shepherd to advise and act for us in the sales of these units in due course.
