‘Parkgate’ will enhance the local community.
The existing buildings occupied by The Royal British Legion and First Shirley Scout Group will be retained, with significant improvements being made to both as a result of the scheme.
The Solihull Christian Fellowship has already moved into a brand new building next to the existing entrance into Shirley Park entrance, which was part funded by Shirley Advance.
Shirley Baptist Church will also have the opportunity to redevelop the rear of its site, with a new frontage directly onto one of the squares within ‘Parkgate’ at the rear. A land-swap has already been done to allow this development to proceed.
Shirley Park will benefit with new pedestrian links through ‘Parkgate’ from Stratford Road and the natural surveillance provided by the new residential units. There will be more than £250,000 spent on high quality hard and soft landscaping at its interface with the scheme as well as new lighting and CCTV.
In addition, a further £500,000 will be paid by Shirley Advance to fund other improvements to Shirley Park.
