A public exhibition held last week (17th – 20th June) to show local people the latest Parkgate scheme for Shirley Town Centre has been a great success, says developer Shirley Advance, with more than 400 local people turning out to visit the event.

Robert Birch, of Shirley Advance, said, “We’re really pleased with how it’s gone. The turnout was fantastic and we’re really grateful to people for giving their time to come down and see what we’re now proposing, particularly those that filled in the feedback forms. Public consultation has been an extremely important aspect of this project from the very beginning and has helped shape the design and scope of the plans”.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to personally thank Shirley Baptist Church for their wonderful hospitality. It was a great venue, being located in Shirley Town Centre and many visitors commented on the lovely environment”.

For those people who missed the exhibition, the display panels and feedback forms are now available until Friday 2nd July upon request at Shirley Library on Church Road, which is open from 10am – 7pm Monday to Thursday and from 10am – 5pm on Friday and Saturday. The plans can also be seen at the project website www.parkgateshirley.com where visitors can also complete a feedback form. There is also a telephone hotline on 0121 711 8863.

A random ‘door to door’ survey of nearby residents and businesses will be undertaken by Shirley Advance over the next couple of weeks. All of the feedback received will then be collated and included within an updated Statement of Community Involvement that will be submitted alongside the new planning application in July.
